When dealing with aperture, there are two things that you need to understand.
One, is that aperture is the quantity of light you let into you camera. Two, is that aperture controls the Depth of field, by how much light is let in. Some cameras have different aperture settings, meaning the amount of light you camera will let in can vary. There are two types of Depth of Field, a greater depth of field, and a shallow depth of field. Greater Depth of Field a greater depth of field is when you can see the whole picture clearly. Greater depth of field photos are usually taken with a lower apeture because then you are letting more light in which makes it possible to get more of the setting in you picture. Shallow Depth of Field a shallow depth of field is when you have one main focus point. Most shallow depth of field photos will have an out of focus background which just adds to the main focal point of the photo. with a shallow depth of field, you usually want to use a higher apeture so that you are not letting as much light in, which created the main focal point.
